FEATURED NEWS

A Unique opportunity to connect with our sister city!

Hampton's Mayor, James Gray and City Manager Mary Bunting recently represented our city at an economic development summit in the United Kingdom. During this robust business trip they also met with Councillor James Baillie, the current Lord Mayor and Jillian Kay, Chief Executive of Southampton City Council.

Our city officials engaged with global defense leaders, explored innovation centers and forged relationships that could open new workforce and business opportunities for Hampton.

The mission focused on bringing new jobs, investment, and opportunities back to our community. By strengthening international partnerships and fostering connections, we help ensure Hampton's economy remains robust and our future remains promising. These were packed days filled with working sessions and strategic discussions, all aimed at bolstering our city's economic future

Mayor Gray said proudly, "We aimed to secure jobs, investment, and opportunities for our residents in the rapidly evolving defense sector. Hampton Roads plays a crucial role in national defense, and we are committed to ensuring our city is included as new technologies and partnerships develop.”

About Southampton

Southampton, England is Hampton’s oldest sister city. It is one of Great Britain’s most historic ports. It is about 60 miles southwest of London and 30 miles northeast of Portsmouth on the south coast of England. It has a population of just under 250,000.

The Titanic (1912) and the Mayflower (1620) both sailed from Southampton. During Ann Kilgore’s term as Mayor of Hampton, the City with the help of Southampton, contracted with the College of Heralds in London to create the Hampton City seal.
