Our Global Bond

Sister Cities of Hampton annually participates in a number of events in support of our affiliate Sister Cities International; and hosts delegations in partnership with Hampton City School students, administrators, City Manager's staff, and the City’s Economic Development Director.

We invite you to help us expand our bond in the global community by your participation.

Many of our events are free and open to the public so visit our site often or follow us on Facebook so you can make plans to join us.

Featured Event:
2023 Young Artists and Authors Showcase
Each year, the Young Artists Showcase encourages youth from around the globe to express the mission of Sister Cities International through original artwork and literature. The Young Artists Showcase gives us an opportunity to reach out to the community. It enables us to engage local Art and English teachers and reach an audience of public, private and home-schooled students that might not already be included in our Sister City youth programs.

The 2023 first place winner of the local Sister Cities of Hampton Artists Showcase, JoJo Li received a $200 prize and her artwork titled “New Year Dinner” was entered in the Sister Cities International Showcase to compete for the $1,000 Grand Prize. Li is an 11th-grade student at Bethel High School.

Congratulations for rising to the challenge and delivering an incredible work of art that successfully illustrated this year's theme “Peace by Piece: Food Security in my Community.” Li’s artist statement below explains her interpretation of the Young Artists and Authors Showcase theme:

This piece represents my love for my culture and the things we find joy in doing as a big family. I wanted to make a connection between the end of New Year and how we gather around and feast with many people. That’s what Chinese New Year is about; giving joy and sharing love with family and/or friends. I wanted to give the viewer a feeling of being inside and included in the family. As long as you find joy in whatever you have in front of you, you can enjoy things alone or as a big family.”

Li's family both inspires and supports her on her big win!

“I wanted to bring my culture and how we celebrate a big day, like Chinese New Year into an art piece for everyone to see!"
- JoJo Li
